Bottom line here seems to be just as I suspected…There are no clear cut stats..Its very individual. Certain family members see the 70 to 90% success rates and think I am nuts saying so many people lose their lives in the process of a BMT or from complications afterwards. Those numbers look great and I have tried to explain that it is still a HUGE risk and one we are not sure we want to take. We will ultimately make the decision on our own. From what I was told by the Dr. at U of C (Chicago), stem cell transplants with t-cell depletion are relatively new for AA patients. Does anyone know of anyone who has had this specifically done?? Marla, You seem to have very strong opinons on transplants. I do respect your opinion and would like to take it into consideration. What do you think about the new t-cell depletion?? Still think it is a shot in the dark??? I read your chapter in the book and everything you say makes a lot of sense. Doesnt mean we are going to follow all of it, but its helpful to know. You have made it clear that you respect every ones choice and realize different things work for different people…….Thanks, Laura
