I was told that platelets last only 5 to 7 days. However based on my son's experience I can tell that some lasts up to 10 days. Basically, I noticed that he was making around 10k on it's own and 10 days after transfusion he still had around 20k. Two days layter he was back to his level of 10k. 10k or 20k it really doesn't matter, it is noting. We transfused him at that level only if he had to have something done, like PICC line insertion etc. I hope that will help. Take care.
