Hi Laura: Glad to read that Larry can be off of Cyclo. Congrats on his rising counts! I talked to another guy who lives locally and is also taking only a male hormone for his AA. (I think it was Danazol/Danocrine). He said he did the ATG at NIH, which put him in complete remission for a year. He relapsed, then was given the hormone and his counts remain fine so long as he's on the hormone. He's tried to taper, but his platelets start to drop. So it appears that hormone levels can also be involved with some male AA cases. I read a book called Life's Blood by Madeline Marget. She wrote that a Dr. Louis Diamond had noticed that his male AA patients sometimes recovered spontaneously at puberty, "when they started to shave." He found use of male hormones like androgens to be helpful. But felt that they didn't work very well since it only worked for mild AA cases, not severe. Unfortunately for us girls the androgens aren't easy on us. We get kinda hairy and deep voices, etc. Heh. (The guy I spoke to said that he even started growing hair on the back of his hands and fingers. Yikes!) Anyway, thought that was interesting. Hope you had a wonderful anniversary! Take care, Marla

Here's a website that show the paths taken. Doesn't answer the question though…..Marlene
