Have you asked your doctor to check you own, natural epo levels? I don't know how long you need to be off off procrit to get a good reading. That way you'll know how much your kidneys are producing on their own. John had his checked back in September and it was 97. The normal range is something like 4-19. But his doctor up at Hopkins said that he expected it to be much higher like the upper 100's to 1000's. When you're anemic, your EPO levels are expected to be high. That's why procrit usually doesn't work for those with AA….Plenty of EPO but not enough stem cells. We asked why his EPO levels were low and didn't really get an answer other than his kidneys took a beating from the treatment and drugs. We'll have to look at it closer when his count are better. His platelets are holding at 10K and WBC around 1.3 – 1.6. and he's gotten away with one unit of red cell/mo. He's getting a cbc tomorrow.
Take care……Marlene
